A gift for sports fans, both series delivers themselves with competitive teamwork and plays that focuses on development. The main characters has a passion for the sport that they are playing and works towards their goal to becoming stronger each episode. Their teammates helps them along the way while tackling through difficult obstacles. It is realistic as we see how much the characters grow through their development over the course. I recommend both series especially if you're the type into sports with competitive team play. 

Both of these series do an excellent job in keeping every episode interesting, while managing to keep the sports aspect very realistic. The character growth is consistent, the story progress is sensible, and the skill improvement is logical and practical. The large cast of supporting teams and characters are also given importance and properly developed. The two series differ in general atmosphere-- Haikyuu!! is more vibrant and lively, so it's an easy watch even for sports anime newbies; on the other hand, Diamond no Ace is a lot more laid-back and leisurely, and is probably more suitable for those wanting to dip further into the sports genre. read more 

Both are sports anime. One is about volleyball and the other is about baseball. Both anime have highly passionate main characters who are aiming for the top. 

You can say they are LITERALLY the same. 1. Main character generally sucks in the sport of his choosing, but has that one "special" ability which allows him to somewhat function 2. He is surrounded by teammates that are either as generic as they come, or also have some sort of a "special ability" 3. In both shows, MCs learn that special abilities aren't enough so they try to incorporate more stuff into their arsenal 4. Comedy is bit-by-bit the same type 5. Similar art and animation 6. The main character starts with a team made of newbies from an unknown school. The main character also is very skilled. The main character goes to an elite school for the sport. They are both freshman going into high school. They both have rivals on the same team. Only difference is that 1 is volleyball and 1 is baseball. 

These two overpowering and rip-roaring sports shows contains the 'team work' in all its magnificence. With competitive, stubborn and hard-working main characters, both shows bring sports anime into a definitely higher level. Excellent character development, in high school setting.  

The main characters are pretty similar. Both of them are passionate about their respective sports and are determined to become the ace of their teams. They also find themselves competing with a talented member on the same team. Both the shows focus on team work and partnerships within the team.  

Both main characters are very talented, competitive, somewhat hard-headed, and are very enthusiastic about the sport they love. Both MC's are often underestimated by others but always manage to surprise the people around them about what they can do and how much potential they really have. Before they went to high school, both MC's were from middle schools that are no good in the particular sport. One is about baseball and the other is about volleyball; however, both anime have that element of "excitement" that will leave watchers hanging after every episode. Both are great! If you love one of these two anime you'll surely love the other! 

Both series focus on the growth of the main character and the team. Very intense and exciting games where you cannot predict the results. Lots of comedy. Teamwork, trust, rivalry are just some of the aspects of these shows 

Both have underdog protagonists that are optimistic, love the sport they play and have a lot of talent even though their experience in the sport might be less than most of the other players. Both about a team sport. Both about a partnership formed in the team and how they work together to overcome obstacle. Though they both have a "main" protagonist, ultimately, both animes has two main protagonists that it develops over the course of the series. If you like one, you would most definitely like the other.

When I watched this show, one thing constantly popped up in my head. That was, "This show is incredibly similar to Haikyu". Not only do these shows revolve around high school sports, but the main characters are determined first years who are striving to be the 'ace' of their team. In an instant, they develop a rivalry with another boy but realize quickly that the team cannot do well without either of them. The main event of both shows is the yearly national high school tournament in which they partake, attempting to bring back their high school's former glory. With lots of practise and intense matches, both main character's skills begin to shine, gaining them acknowledgement from their 3rd year seniors who for them, this will be one of their last if not their last high school tournament. read more 

Both anime are a lot similar where the main leads were inspired to join their respected sports. They slowly both strongly exhaled at it while earning the heart of the opponents and friends 

Great funny, Action pack sporty anime that will make you laugh cry and jump out of your seat to cheer. 

If you like Haikyuu, you will also enjoy Ace of Diamond. The character relationships and love of the sport are very similar, and the intensity is no different between each series. 

Both anime are sports anime where the main protagonist is focused on trying to become the ace of their team. Both Hinata and Sawamura have formidable opponents to compete with for the title of ace, and have prominent character development throughout the story. Hinata and Sawamura are both outgoing and charismatic characters who are beneficial to the team, even if they aren't in their preferred position. However, Haikyuu!! is volleyball and Diamond no Ace is baseball, but they share major key components, and both shows are very enjoyable.  

If you like sports animes and loved Haikyuu like I did, then you will love Diamond no Ace, I hope! They're both sports animes that concentrate on a team that was priviously very famous but then went down, and those teams, through the anime, will get stronger! It also concentrates in more than one character that wants to be stronger, and those two characters will become stronger and give they're best to not be left behind by the other character! If you like enjoyable shounen sports series these two are very similar with one another. They have decent shounen writing and a lot of likable characters. Haikyuu is a lot popular but Diamond no ace is just as good and sometimes better 

Everything about these two anime are the same, except one is baseball and one is volleyball !!! When I watched Diamond no Ace, the first thing I thought was "wow this is like Haikyuu!!" Definitely would recommend! Both are very exciting anime!! 

Diamond no Ace is similar to Haikyuu!! in that it is also a sports anime, that heavily involves a wide range of fluid animation, fantastic character development, great plot and overall lovable characters.  

A plucky young teenager who loves to play sports enters high school and joins a sports club where he is discovered to be very talented (but does not possess super powers....Kuroko). The teen then meets his new tall and dark haired BFF/Rival and the two form a bond not only with each other but with the whole sports team. Along the way, the team struggles to reach the nationals and meets all sorts of other amazing teams and they (the teams) become rivals and form friendships which are reinforced by the training camp arc. --Portuguese Below--- Both are sports works that require teamwork, what matters in both is the development of the characters, you have an initial protagonist who is not that good but has potential and who trains in both cases. I really recommend it a lot, I don't know anything about baseball, but I watched the basics during the anime and there were many exciting moments. Furthermore, both works try to be realistic, the protagonist's team loses a lot as well as wins sometimes, in other words, it is really an attempt at a deep and layered story but one side focusing on volleyball and the other on baseball. Haikyu!! It's better than Ace of the Diamond, it's better done, animated and has a striking soundtrack and songs, it's the pinnacle of my view of a Sports anime, but give Ace of the Diamond a chance, it's also well done , it is above average, it may not be the pinnacle of Haikyu production! but it's also very animated and well done. So, I believe that if you came from Haikyu!!, just pass the baseball barrier and you will enjoy Ace of the Diamond, and if you came from Ace of the Diamond, I believe you will really enjoy Haikyu!! In this case, Haikyu is made by Production I.G., which is a large studio today recognized for its sports works such as Haikyuu!!, Run with the Wind, Ace of the Diamond itself and Kuroko no Basket, but which has already produced very classic works. recognized as Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion, The Prince of Tennis and Ghost in the Shell, basically it is a recognized studio that has a very good consistency and deals with several projects even as it has several studios under its control such as Wit Studio and that both producing works such as Attack on Titan and Viland Saga. In other words, a very good animation, very fluid and with a very original design. Ace of the Diamond is also made by Production I.G., but in partnership with Madhouse in the 1st and 2nd seasons, and the 3rd being just Madhouse. In other words, expect very good animation too, it may not be on the same level as Haikyu, but it is above average. Madhouse is another classic studio, which was responsible for great classic works such as Monster, Hajime no Ippo, Nana and Black Lagoon and produced absurdly popular and well-reviewed recent works such as Hunter x Hunter 2011, Freiren, Sora yori mo Tooi Basho, Chihayafuru , Hellsing Ultimate, One Punch Man S1 among others. In the case of madhouse, it has absurd potential like the films Summer Wars and Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, Wolf Children by Mamoro Hosoda and other animes I mentioned, and their works are usually above average, but obviously if they assume a low investment amount, nowadays they either don't accept it or it's done in a very basic way like in Overlord. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ambos são obras de esporte que precisam de trabalho em equipe, o que toca em ambos é o desenvolvimento dos personagens, você tem um protagonista inicial que não é tão bom assim mas tem um potencial e que vai treinando nos 2 casos. I watched Haikyuu before Diamond no Ace because DnA never kept my attention, but OH GOD, I watched DnA in my bored mood, and I can say THAT ANIME IS THE BEST SPOKON, so I make that recommendation here because as like me, you need to give a chance to DIAMOND NO ACE, it's a masterpiece. If I can give you a difference I can say that in DnA is more evident the rivalry in the same team, so it's a bonus with a lot characters that you can love. You really feel with Sawamura and you'll wish his success. Ohhhhh, and the main character has also been MIYUKI Jajajaj!!! I love Miyuki and the person who always deserves de number of ace: Sawamura <3 Sometimes DnA reminds me to Naruto!!!!  read more 

Both being sports anime will give you the same chills with the great OVAs you are looking for in a baseball setting  

It is an incredibly sculpted sports shounen anime that is solely about baseball. The plethora of characters, the relationships, the plot points, and everything else revolves around baseball but it is choreographed in a way that it is engaging to all audiences. Every character is given attention and development and the antagonism is so much more complex than simply the opponent the main team is trying to beat. It’s truly beautiful.  

-both are sports animes -DNA has more rivalries within the team rather than haikyuu's more friendly cast -DNA focuses on the main team rather than going into rival teams as often -haikyuu is much shorter than DNA -DNA jumps into realistic expirences with baseball so it isnt as friendly to non baseball familiar watchers, but is still a lovely anime! 

For sports anime enthusiasts, you know the deal - the camaraderie, teamwork, and friendships that come with it, all wrapped up in a rich emotional landscape, vibe, and atmosphere. Plus, it always adds a unique twist to character development. Team sports themes are always on point! Hehe! :D 

Both great sports anime that show the aspiration of an underdog on a team sport. I do like Ace of Diamond a bit more because I like baseball but they both make me want to play sports professionally.  

If you love sports anime and haikyuu am sure you are gonna love diamond no ace ..it will make your heart warm...am sure you are gonna love sawamura and miyuki like you love hinata and kageyama...also their are so many other characters to love  

Botha are one of the best sports anime. However, Diamond no ace has much more comedy than haikyuu. But overall i will say haikyuu is bettter. Still diamond no ace has its own best moments. Worth watching both. 

I love both of these series, but I would say Diamond no ace focuses a bit more on the mental aspect of playing sports, while still keeping it's comedy aspect. If you're an athlete yourself (whether you've played baseball or not), I highly highly suggest it 

First thing that can be mentioned pretty easy is that both of them are about sports and the second honorable mention is that in both animes you can see characters have been introduced to shows nicely and third is that both shows can make you come along with them well since they transport their emotions that flow on the shows very well to audiences. 

If you like the compelling characters that you connect to and genuinely root for, this is your anime. The slow burn character and player development is amazing and so worth it!

Both sports anime following an up and coming player. Watch as they grow and become better and better with struggles along the way. 

• Generally have similiar genres, but different kind of sports. • These stories growth focus on some characters that are building the team, also the main characters have an unique characteristics. By the way, Ace of Diamond not intensely shows woman appearances than Haikyuu. • The widely competitive, many characters and high goals are set in both. • Last but not least, I think the music has similiar impact helping these series to living the stories. 

They give out the same feeling as you watch them, it will give you chills and put you on the tip of your toes, whole in all a good story/animation anime 

Both explained the rules and techniques of the sports, I learned a lot about the rules and techniques of volleyball and baseball from these two anime. 

Both are sports anime that have similar character dynamics (Kageyama and Hinata) and (Sawamura and Furuya). The animes are comedic and have a certain nostalgia about them that makes you want to go back and rewatch it again. Compared to Haikyuu its easier not to get attached to other teams. 

They're both baseball anime with the main character being a pitcher, who's pitching got a certain quirk due to never receiving proper coaching. They're different in that Oofuri's Mihashi is the ace of a new established team and lacks self-confidence, while DnA's Sawamura joins a high school baseball elite school and is overconfident despite being no where near the ability of the regular members of the team. 

They're both anime about baseball with the main characters being the pitcher and the catcher. 

Both are a story of pitchers coming from humble beginnings. While DnA has a more intense art style and longer episode length than Oofuri, oofuri is still an extremely cute and quirky show that shows teamwork much like DnA. Oofuri is honestly one of my favorite shows based on the main character alone. 

Both revolve about baseball, the main characters struggle to work with new team mates. While both have opposite personalities, they still learn the true meaning of baseball, hardship, and friebdship throughout their journey as a pitcher. 

Both are baseball anime, with pitchers as main characters, both baseball team struggling to reach koushien, both had a good balance in both everyday life of the players and gameplay, though personally I believe Ookiku focus a bit more on the former. 

Both are comedy, sports anime centred around high school baseball. Both main characters (Mihashi from Ookiku and Eijun from Daiya no A) are pitchers. The catchers for both Ookiku and Daiya no A are pretty smart and they also get a lot of screen time. Ookiku has more detailed baseball rules explanations; Daiya no A is more light on the explanations and focuses a lot on creating tension, cliffhangers and comedy parts. Differences: 1. Ookiku has a more laid-back and slice-of-life feel to it; both the art and the soundtrack. In this regard, Daiya no A has a kick-ass soundtrack and sound effects (a ball hitting the mitt, the batting sound, etc) are really stressed (adds tension to the scene and really makes it come alive!) 2. Ookiku's team is a newly-formed team with only 10 members, while Daiya no A's team is from a prestigious baseball high school. The supporting cast members are all great. You'll find at least 3 or 4 you'll like (and will bet that Tetsu captain will be one of them :p) 3. Daiya no A's pitcher is the opposite of Mihashi: loud, brash and confident. They do share one thing: both love to pitch and don't want to leave the mound. :) read more

big windup is a lot shorter than diamond no ace (this one's a long series) and has better animations, both are baseball animes and have that relationship between pitcher and catcher. the mc are polar opposites tho  

The entire pacing and characters are very different from each other and share very few similarities regarding their own series, besides both being about baseball and only having two animated seasons. But if you love the dynamic between Mihashi and Abe you might find yourself enjoying the dynamic between Eijun and Satoru. And while Ookiku Furikabutte focuses a lot more heavily on each individual character, leaving no character left behind, Daiya is more of the quick paced, dramatized sports anime that many are used to and focuses mostly around the main character(s) and less of the supporting cast. Overall it's still very enjoyable and fun to watch! read more 

Both heroes are hot-headed and only pitch straight balls. Also, both are pretty idiotic. Goro is a massive baseball fan and one of the best players, while Sawamura knows nothing about baseball despite being a pitcher for a while and has to fully build his foundation. 

Very similar main characters and style of humor. Both are about baseball and display a good amount of suspense. 

They're both anime about baseball with the main character being a hotheaded pitcher.

Well, for starters, the two revolve around a guy who loves baseball and always is playing it. The main characters don't really care if their teamates are good or bad, they just want to play baseball. The two animes are great and you can't get enough of them. 

They are both baseball anime 

Both anime are about baseball, both main characters are not intelligent however they are excellent at baseball and get stronger as the story progresses. However Major focuses more on the protagonist while diamond no ace goes more in depth into the entire team and the other teams. 

Major and Diamond no Ace are both worth watching because they seriously depict the struggles of baseball players. Both feature strong character development, thrilling matches, engaging rivalries, and demonstrate that hard work and consistency are more important than talent alone. 

This same baseball have realistic on it and it's have great story line baseball and character have great development and with rollercoaster of emotion and had watching this two anime  

I watched Kuroko no Basket and was looking for a similiar one, then i saw a recommendation for Diamond no Ace. These two shows are a little bit different, dealing with different problems but they are just great in their own ways. I was not disappointed at all! Both are about teamwork and personal growth with lots of comedy scenes and very exciting games 

They both have great characters with the same passion for their respective sports, although Kagami is more similar to the main character in Diamond no Ace than in Kuroko. So they have a similar feel to them in terms of characters... somewhat (though none can match up to GOM, Seirin, or BaKagami). My first recommendation but I think it'll work! 

Both are quite lengthy in episodes and series', also the theme is SPORT and about the struggles in achieving their goals. They each focus on team work as well as each character being able to improve. 

Diamond no ace is a fantastic anime. In comparison to kuroko no Baske it has the same competitive feel of wanting to surpass your rivals and learning from the past mistakes. It also has that alluring suspense of when you don't know what's going to happen next or if they'll beat the opposing teams.  

Both are sports anime, and both mc strives to make their team the best, although at the course of doing so, they will compete with rivals who are doing the same thing. Both are pretty fast paced, although I would say KnB is more fast paced. They have similar type of comedy and also have the same producer.

Both are awesome sports anime with lots of comedy and also super intense when it comes to playing matches.  

Same basic passion for the sport. If you're not sold on at least watching sports anime, one or the other will probably sell you on them. Yowamush Pedal goes more on the side of showing crazy characters, but it's nevertheless a similar feeling. If you were told they took place in the same universe, you probably wouldn't be surprised. 

Both are sports genre anime that don't rely on supernatural ability-like twists. They stress character development and aren't afraid to have the protagonist or protagonist's team lose in order to strengthen the plot. 

Sports heavily dependent on strategy and trust in the ones on your team. Shows how your emotions can get the better of you if you don't keep yourself calm. A lot of simple mind games are played, meaning players try to read the other players actions before they do it. Because of this the games/races are very long analyzing every single play that makes a difference. Both anime are very technical  

Reliable senpai-tachi, personal growth, teamwork, exciting and unpredictable gamesraces, rivalry, very good teams. I was reluctant at first, but had to admit that yowamushi pedal was a nice sport anime too, a little bit different from diamond no ace, but as much captivating. Comedy moments in both series 

Both are sport anime and focus a lot on people's hardship to get into the main group. 

Both are sports-genre anime and have the same story line- Becoming a hero, becoming the main life line of the team from zero through hard work and struggle and with the help of friends. In each anime MCX has some good rivals with whom they work hard and continuously all they improve themselves. 

Both are sports series where - Main characters (MC) are trying to attend one of the nation's strongest clubs (high standards) - MC has huge potential to be great but lack knowledge/skill and therefore are looked down upon - MC need to work really hard to keep up with the rest of the members - Really nice cast of characters / interactions and good animation. So if you have seen Diamond no Ace and liked it then you'll probably like Ao Ashi too.  

Well first they both are a sport anime, but I think if you enjoyed Ao Ashi you will enjoy Diamond No ace. The main characters have similar traits with both trying to be on the starting team.

Both shows have: - Loud, hardworking, endearing protagonist with zero to hero development - Elite team settings - If you are noob to both sports, watching them gives you (sport) 101 class in such entertaining way 

Both have a really good power crawl, and are some of the few sports titles with protagonists who don't feel invincible 

Cross Game and Diamond no Ace are anime series with a sports theme relating to baseball. The main male protagonist gets involved with the sport. Throughout both series, the main male protagonist trains himself to become better and earn a reputation. There is competition in both series while also holding a degree of comedy. They both also takes place in a school environment as the main characters meets both friends and rivals. 

Ace of Diamond and Cross Game are both baseball-centred anime. Cross Game, however, features more romance and has more character drama.  

Diamond no Ace is an improved version of Cross Game IMO, not because the story is similar, rather because it deals with similar themes (growing up, hardship, being away from loved ones) while presenting them in a much more polished manner. The baseball aspect is also much better explained and dealt with in Diamond no Ace. 

MC ara quite similar. Both are idiots with great potential, who don't know thier true power. Storyline is similar as well..it's all about teamwork, selfconfidence, tournamets, though it's a sports anime, what else it can be about?))) 

They are both written in the same way just one is baseball and the other is basketball. Both mc start off as amateurs and are lovable idiots who go through tons of character growth in their respective series. While other shonen sports anime have characters that are already decent at the sport they play, the mc in both these series literally start from the basics to work their way up and catch up to their rivals which makes the series very realistic. Ultimate underdog story  

These both feature loud obvious sports players with immense potential. The main characters are funny, stupid, and loud. They both feature a rival on their own teams and similar dynamics between both in each show. Both of these anime are so similar in the characters to dialogue and character interactions, especially development of the main character in skill level and how the main character gets stronger and overcomes hurdles. I promise if you love daiya no ace, you will def at least enjoy slam dunk. And vice versa

If you like Diamond No Ace you are bound to like baseball in general. As a show One Outs focuses more to the mind games involved in the sport from comedical point of view. 

Both anime are about baseball, both main characters are not intelligent however they are excellent at baseball and get stronger as the story progresses. However Major focuses more on the protagonist while diamond no ace goes more in depth into the entire team and the other teams. 

Both about sports, passion, deep friendship, guts and drive to achieve anything. 

In both animes there is the loud main character (Asta and Sawamura) and the silent rival (Yuno and Furuya). In Black Clover Asta and Yuno want to become mage king and in Diamond no Ace Sawamura and Furuya want to become the ace of their team. Asta has no magic but has a sword, and Sawamura doesn't have an good fastball but he has an moving ball. Yuno has an four leaf clover grimoire, and Furuya has an amazing fastball.

--Portuguese Below--- Both are sports works that require teamwork, what matters in both is the development of the characters, you have an initial protagonist who is not that good but has potential and who trains in both cases. I really recommend it a lot, I don't know anything about baseball, but I watched the basics during the anime and there were many exciting moments. Furthermore, both works try to be realistic, the protagonist's team loses a lot as well as wins sometimes, in other words, it is really an attempt at a deep and layered story but one side focusing on volleyball and the other on baseball. Haikyu!! It's better than Ace of the Diamond, it's better done, animated and has a striking soundtrack and songs, it's the pinnacle of my view of a Sports anime, but give Ace of the Diamond: a chance, it's also well done , it is above average, it may not be the pinnacle of Haikyu production! but it's also very animated and well done. So, I believe that if you came from Haikyu!!, just pass the baseball barrier and you will enjoy Ace of the Diamond, and if you came from Ace of the Diamond: S2 And, I believe you will really enjoy Haikyu!! Realmente recomendo bastante, eu não entendo nada de beisebol, mas fui vendo o básico durante o anime e teve muitos momentos emocionantes. Além disso, ambas as obras tentam ser realistas, o time do protagonista perde bastante assim como ganha as vezes, ou seja, é realmente uma tentativa de uma história profunda e com camadas mas um lado focando no vôlei e o outro no beisebol. Haikyu!! é melhor que Ace of the Diamond, É mais bem feito, animado e possui uma trilha sonora e músicas marcantes, é o ápice na minha visão de um anime de Esporte, mas dê uma chance aAce of the Diamond: S2, ele também é bem feito, é acima da média, pode nào ser o ápice da produção de Haikyu! mas também é bem animado e bem feito. Assim, acredito que se veio de Haikyu!!, basta passar a barreira do beisebol que vai curtir Ace of the Diamond, e caso tenha vindo de Ace of the Diamond, acredito que vá curtir muitooo Haikyu!! No caso, Haikyu é feito pela Production I.G., que é um grande estúdio hoje reconhecido pelas suas obras de esporte como Haikyuu!!, Run with the Wind, o próprio Ace of the Diamond e Kuroko no Basket, mas que já produziu obras clássicas muito reconhecidas como Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion, The Prince of Tennis e Ghost in the Shell, basicamente é um estúdio reconhecido que possui uma constância muito boa e lida com vários projetos até por ter vários estúdios sub seu domineo como Wit Studio e que ambos produzindo obras como Attack on Titan e Viland Saga. Ou seja, uma animação muito boa, bem fluida e com um design bem original. Ace of the Diamond: é feito tbm pela Production I.G., mas em parceria com a Madhouse na 1º e 2º temporada, e a 3º sendo somente a Madhouse. Ou seja, espera uma animação muito boa também, pode nào ser do mesmo nível de Haikyu, mas é acima da média. Madhouse é oturo es'tudio clássico, que foi responsável por grandes obras clássicas como Monster, Hajime no Ippo, Nana e Black Lagoon e produziu obras recentes absurdamente populares e bem avaliadas como Hunter x Hunter 2011, Freiren, Sora yori mo Tooi Basho, Chihayafuru, Hellsing Ultimate, One Punch Man S1 dentre outras. No caso da madhouse ela tem um potencial absurdo como filmes Summer Wars e Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, Wolf Children de Mamoro Hosoda e outros animes que mencionei, e suas obras costumam ser acima da média, mas óbvio que caso assumam uma orba de baixo investimento, hoje em dia ou eles não aceitam ou é feito de uma forma bem básica como em Overlord. read more 

They're both sports anime with cool mc's the series is heavily based of their friendship/rivalary attitude towards the sport showing that they will not lose to each other. If you like cheering for the main character over the underdog kind of theme ya know with hot guys. :) 

Both series have great characters, a quick paced plot, and lots of comedy between the action. The art styles of both are unique and great, though Hajime no Ippo (season 1 only. The later seasons are made later and the art was cleaned up.) was made awhile ago so the quality isn't as clear. Don't let that deter you though, it's a great series. While Diamond no Ace is about baseball and Hajime no Ippo is about boxing, both main characters follow a similar growth pattern. Both are from average backgrounds and through hard work polish their diamonds in the rough. Diamond no Ace focuses on Sawamura Eijun, a pitcher scouted from a small town in Nagano to go to Seido High School, a famous school known for its strong baseball team. He learns from his upperclassmen the value of hard work while competing with another pitcher, Furuya Satoru, to get the ace number. Hajime no Ippo starts with Makunouchi Ippo being bullied by his delinquent classmates. After being saved by Takamura Mamoru, a professional boxer, and taught how to properly punch, he discovers that he enjoys boxing and eventually aims to become the Japan Champion. read more 

The main character is a hard worker working his way from the the ground up ais a underdog that experiences failures but keeps getting back up.
