Jeanne d’arc was a French peasant girl who was inspired by visions of archangel Michael, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine to save France from the English. She was able to lead an army in multiple battles, famously carrying a banner in battle. Although she was ultimately captured and executed, she became the patron saint of France and has been the inspiration for many fictional heroines. Jeanne was popularly portrayed as being clad in armor and quite a few armor-clad heroines were inspired by her. |
