VTuber Nandaga Haishin Kiri Wasuretara Densetsu ni Natteta

Third-generation VTuber Awayuki Kokorone's fans know her as a prim, proper, and graceful idol. Though she has considerably less fans compared to other VTubers in the Live-On agency, Awayuki's loyal following supports her every step of the way.

One night, Awayuki forgets to turn her livestream off—a blunder that changes the trajectory of her online career forever. Contrary to her usual angelic persona, her genuine brutish personality is exposed to more than ten thousand people who tuned in. Awayuki reveals that she is nothing more than a severe alcoholic who spouts profanities nonstop, constantly viewing her fellow VTubers with lustful admiration.

However, instead of being reprimanded by her agency, Awayuki receives praise: her unhinged, disorderly conduct was Live-On's actual expectation of her. Now having her big break and permission to stream without holding anything back, the once-unpopular VTuber begins her rise to stardom.

If you're a fan of vTubers, you're absolutely going to eat this anime up and hope for seconds. If you don't have any idea what the hell a vTuber is, go watch a few and you'll quickly pick it up. If you're not a fan, you're maybe not the target of this particular series.

I love how the MC's rougher personality is outright embraced by her fans and her agency- most agencies these days wouldn't really have such a great view of a talent suddenly breaking kayfabe because they forgot to end their stream and then let parts of her own persona overtake that ... of her role. I will also say that yeah, there's a lot of truth in the people being low-level attracted to everyone (hey, some of those models can be really really cute), and yeah, sometimes relationships do start based on everything- and everything going all great and well is, well... it's a nice thing to see after hearing about all the constant clout-gathering and viewfarming and agency stupidity and everything else that makes your friendly local indie just shake her head and hope that they never end up like that if they should hit it big.

About the only thing I can complain about is that the protag's bit about drinking gets really old after a time- it's like, when it's a fresh bit, it's great, but when it becomes something she does just every single stream, it becomes, ehhh... kind of old?

But still, if you want a peek of what it's like behind the curtain, as it were.... this is a really great way to see it!

Mixed Feelings

If you want to watch a 12 episode long advertisement for Strong Zero and Vtubers, this is it. "VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream" is basically a fun romp on the life of vtubers with a Strong Zero can thrown in your face and joked about every episode. Nothing more, yet nothing less. This to is "Live-On".

It's basically as simple as that. If you don't like Vtubing shenanigans or have an unhealthy addiction to all things Strong Zero, you really won't enjoy this show. If you do like Vtubing shenanigans though, this show ... really is on point. The games that they play, the banter they share, the technology they use, it's all there. Also, every episode has Awayuki saying how much she likes to drink Strong Zero. Did I mention that this is basically one big advertisement for Strong Zero?

To be honest, just like watching a full 2 to 6 hour Vtubers' stream in real life, it kind of feels like a waste of time. Just like with Vtubers, this show would probably be more enjoyable as 3 to 6 minute clips. I would really only recommend watching this if you actually enjoy Vtubing as an entertainment medium, as there really isn't much to dig in to.


PS: In the end where they have a montage of all of the legendary Vtubers starting with Kizuna AI, why did they put Aki Rosenthal in there? Don't get me wrong, she's a good vtuber, but when it comes to the Vtubing legends that made the medium what it is today, she doesn't even come close (even within her own agency, Hololive). Fubuki got robbed once again.

Welcome to a light snowfall: This series is, in short, about nothing, unfortunately too much about nothing - I was most pleased by the references to High School DXD and School Days, here and there a good joke or a listenable song. However, every first episode has almost zero story, it must contain an advertisement for StroZero (I probably won't get that out of my head) and there must be a collaboration. It must be said that I'm not angry and I didn't watch the series with complete distaste, it's just that the episodes simply evaporate as quickly as the StroZero bubbles.
