Hey! Yeah, you’re right, it has been a while. My day’s been going well, how’s life been treating you? Hope it’s been good! :)

I’ve heard about the live-action, but not the stage drama. Is the live-action you’re referring to called BET? Because omg, what even is that? I tried watching it after seeing a few Instagram edits that hinted at yuri moments, but it turned out to be pure queerbaiting. I also have no idea what’s going on with that show. It feels like they were trying to appeal to a Western audience, but honestly, none of the cast looked like their characters, except Yumeko. It was so confusing watching it, constantly wondering “who’s who?” And on top of that, it just looked super low-budget.

I totally get what you mean about Sayaka. It’s really disappointing when such an important character gets sidelined, especially since she adds so much depth to the story. Even when she shows up later, not having her as part of the main cast makes it feel like she’s treated as optional, which doesn’t sit right. And yeah, ignoring Ririka is confusing too, I always thought she had a lot of potential, so leaving her out feels like such a missed opportunity. I’m not sure if they’ll ever do a second arc with the Tower of Doors, but if they did, that would definitely help fix a lot of those gaps.

And that’s super interesting about language! It’s impressive that you can communicate so easily across those regions despite the big pronunciation differences, I can see why people would be surprised in a good way. In Arabic, there are also lots of regional stereotypes. Every country or area has its own dialect, and people sometimes make assumptions about someone based on their accent or word choice. The “neutral” form I mentioned is called Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). It’s what you’ll hear in the news, formal speeches, and in writing. Everyone understands it across the Arab world, but it’s not anyone’s native spoken dialect. Day-to-day conversations still happen in local dialects, but MSA is what people fall back on when they want something everyone can understand.

Im also excited to see Android wa Keiken Ninzuu ni Hairimasu ka?? gets an adaptation, I was very surprised to even see it of all things get a adaptation and yeah its definitely right now one of the only Yuri erotica out there.

I remember back when MahoAko was first airing I didn't start watching it until I think like week 1 or two since it started airing it was just something I chose on a complete whim but yeah I ended up adoring the anime and I really do appreciate the anime outside of the ecchi stuff. I really do mainly watch it because I love the characters relationships they have together. Mainly Utena and Kiwi. I have only read the first chapter of the manga but plan to binge it all after season 2 finishes airing.

Im also a really big fan of characters with big devotion to the one they love, one of my favourites is Elsa from Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess! a web comic which sadly isn't listed on this website I love those kind of characters with genuine devotion to the person they love.

Wow, that cosplayer did an amazing job of looking like Mary! It’s spot on. The uniform also looks like she made it herself, which is really cool. I totally get what you mean about the bright, cartoonish hair, it can sometimes take away from the more serious tone of the manga. Honestly, I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if the hair didn't look like the original. Every time Kirari was on screen in the live-action, I was so impressed with how her hair looked, it didn’t look cheap at all. They really did a great job!

Haha, that’s some serious dedication for Yurika Nakamura right there! I can relate, during Eren the Southpaw, even though it was a bit rough at times, I’d fast-forward to the parts with Yurika, and it was totally worth it. Despite the boring parts in the show, Yurika and Elaiza Ikeda really look so cute together. Also, the yuri web drama Yurika Nakamura is in got a second season with even more yuri! Chaser Game W is the series name, and she’s absolutely gorgeous in it. Plus, it just got a manga adaptation too.

It’s really impressive that you studied both German and Arabic during your bachelor’s! I totally understand what you mean about the vocabulary, Arabic can be tough to remember at first. And thats a really good comparison about Arabic and Chinese being similar in that sense. The official written language in Arabic is Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), which is used in formal settings like news, speeches, and education across Arab countries. But when people speak in their daily lives, the dialects can vary so much from country to country. It's like with Chinese dialects, what people speak in different regions can be worlds apart. When people from different Arabic-speaking countries meet and the dialects are too different, we usually switch to MSA or a more neutral version of our dialects to communicate. It's fascinating how languages evolve that way. I speak Jordanian Arabic at home, but I have friends from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and their way of speaking is completely different. Over time, I've picked up some of their dialect, too. In Saudi, they use a lot of hand gestures while speaking, and I’ve learned that as well! Haha. As for Modern Standard Arabic, I tend to use it with people I’m not very familiar with because it’s more polite and respectful.

I completely understand your frustration with how websites demand your personal information just to access content. Asking for something as personal as an ID card number just to reset a password feels like an invasion of privacy. It’s such a shame because, as you said, there’s so much amazing art and writing out there, but the need to protect your privacy just makes it harder to enjoy. It’s such an unnecessary barrier, and I get why it’s so frustrating.

However, it’s a Western version, and none of the cast members are Japanese. They’re completely different from the original characters, not even the hairstyles or fashion match. Plus, in this version, Runa is portrayed by a man. haha :D

Same here! I’m really hoping we get to see more development between Sayaka and Kirari. Since Kakegurui focuses so much on the story and gambling gimmicks, there isn’t much room for their romance in the manga. But I still consider them canon, so I’m really hoping we get more of them soon. :)

As for the Kakegurui live-action, I also had complaints about everyone’s hair. If I remember correctly, Kirari was the only one who had the right hair color not even Mary! But yeah, I totally agree, Sayaka’s actress did an amazing job portraying her. I’ve watched other shows with Yurika Nakamura, and she’s really good at embodying her characters, it makes it feel like she was meant for the role. And the fact that both she and Kirari’s actress are in Yuri Project makes them even more perfect for it. Did you know they were actually in another series together before Kakegurui? It’s called Eren the Southpaw. Honestly, it’s pretty boring, so I’m not sure if you’d enjoy it, but they have a lot of cute interactions, like sitting on each other’s laps. ;)

Oh, cool! Your first language is Chinese? my first language was arabic. :) Manhua are basically the Chinese versions of manhwa and manga, and you can find most of the untranslated ones on Bilibili. That Kirasaya fic you mentioned sounds intense but also really sweet, it sounds like a very toxic but not really at the same time which is exactly the kind of thing I love reading the most.

I totally get what you mean about ID registration. It’s so frustrating when all you want is to enjoy a good story without the extra hassle. Plus, I rarely revisit those sites, so registering feels like a waste. I’d seriously love to read your fanfics sometime if you ever feel like sharing! Even if you’re on hiatus a lot, that’s totally okay, sometimes inspiration just comes and goes. I’m like that with art. (^v^)

Yeah, I completely agree. annoying when people make assumptions without considering actual data or perspectives from within the community. It’s even worse when these misconceptions keep spreading, despite studies and firsthand experiences proving otherwise.
The idea that yuri is only for men or exists just to cater to them completely ignores the diverse audience that enjoys it. Like you said, there are plenty of female yuri fans and creators, but some people just refuse to acknowledge that. For example, the other day, I was on a manga website discussing a chapter, and I mentioned how the author’s works feel very realistic. Someone responded that it’s because the author is a woman, and another person added that the author is in a relationship with a woman. I think a lot of yuri works feel authentic because some authors are writing from personal experience, and a big part of that is the fact that many of them are women. The comparison to yaoi is interesting too, there’s definitely a difference in how fan engagement is perceived in both genres.

That example with Matama and Nemo really highlights the issue. People experience media differently, some appreciate the intimacy and emotions, while others focus purely on the physical aspects. But reducing yuri as a whole to just "fanservice for men" is oversimplifying it so much. And you make a great point about the live-action adaptation! It’s refreshing when they add unique scenes while staying true to the original story. Some live actions can be hit or miss, but this one really surprised me in a good way.

Also, I really like Sayaka Igarashi’s live-action actress! She’s actually one of my favorite Japanese actresses, even though she doesn’t get many roles with significant screen time. Yurika Nakamura is so pretty and a great actress, and the fact that she starred in a yuri web series too probably makes me a little biased, haha. (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

I totally get your perspective on yuri tropes. It’s nice to see more diverse and positive representations, especially as the genre evolves. It’s interesting how our preferences change the more we explore different works I used to enjoy simpler portrayals, but now I really appreciate more nuanced and emotional ones too. That said, I still think Kuroko is a hardcore lesbian, haha, and with the 4th season announced, I can’t wait to see how her character develops! Also, no problem about the differences between the anime and manga, it’s always fun to notice those details. :)

Your take on the intimacy between Matama and Nemo is really interesting. To me, Nemo’s sex scene felt both steamy and intimate, which made it so cute. It’s rare to see that kind of emotional balance in a scene that isn’t just there to be over-sexualized even though its a sex scene. I still can’t believe Magical Girls managed to air on TV with a scene like that! I feel the same way about the lack of deep and meaningful representation for lesbian and bi women in anime there’s often too much focus on the physical side, and not enough on emotional depth. Expressing our views and supporting artists who portray these relationships authentically is definitely the way to go.

By the way, you speak Chinese? That’s really cool! It must be so much fun (and easier) for you to enjoy manhua, and yuri stories in their raw versions. And you’re definitely not crazy for fangirling I’d do the same for a character I love. I actually saw the same thing for KKG, but in Japanese, and I’m really tempted to buy it and translate it myself even though I don’t know Japanese, haha. Also, analyzing the gambles in KKG is so fun. The story, characters, plot, gambles, and even the setting are so in-depth it’s really impressive. Despite the, uh, orgasmic Yumeko moments, I’d still recommend it to anyone interested in gambling stories.

On another note, I really like how you described the yuri/GL genre on your profile. At the end of the day, yuri, girls' love (GL), and shoujo ai all mean the same thing romance between two female characters (or most). But I do think each term has developed its own connotations. For example, when I think of yuri, I imagine something wholesome, with depth in both the story and the romance. But when I think of GL, I immediately associate it with webcomics and manhwa, probably because a lot of manhwa focus more on the sex while romance takes a backseat. Some stories don’t shy away from those moments like What Does the Fox Say, Ruthless, and Sadistic Beauty Side B.

Also, I heavily agree with you when you said yuri isn’t made for only men. It’s honestly so stupid to assume a lesbian genre is meant for only male audience. I get why people think that, since men tend to like girl-on-girl action, and a lot of girls who read yaoi like to ship two hot guys together. I also think this assumption comes from the way yaoi is often consumed many girls read it because of the attractive male characters, but a lot of yaoi (especially with aggressive sex scenes) is based on unrealistic perspectives, and those perspectives sometimes influence how people see yuri too. If that makes sense?

I also really like Ave Mujica this season. At first I didn't really follow the Bang Dream series. But once I watched MyGo especially when I heard the opening song, I immediately fell in love with this anime. It reminded me of when I watched Girls Band Cry even though I felt Girls Band Cry was still better in terms of music and the story was arguably not as heavy as MyGo. When I finished with MyGo and entered Ave Mujica, I fell in love with the opening song again. And when I found out that Ave Mujica could be considered a sequel to MyGo, I felt a strong connection to the story and even the drama that was happening in each episode. I think the process of making the band MyGo from Crychic will also happen in Ave Mujica, but I hope to find new surprises in the formation of Ave Mujica. And I hope but I can only hope that there can be a match between bands: MyGo vs Ave Mujica.
