I found a danmei novel set in modern times called Reborn into a Hamster for 233 Days; it's quite fun.

I learned the basic Chinese fantasy tropes quickly; it wasn't difficult.

The fish one is wonderful, I highly recommend it.

I've completed two danmei novels so far and enjoyed both quite a bit. I finished Scumbag System and The Disabled Tyrant's Pet Palm Fish.

But I think it all really started when I was bored and started watching the MDZS C-drama(The Untamed).

I started consuming danmei at the end of last year and now I'm fascinated.

Thanks for the links! I read the second link, not fully though bcs it was hella long, but that was pretty interesting. Hagio read and referenced a lot of literature, no wonder her mangas have depth and acute storytelling. I noticed most of her stories are pretty short. Anyway I'll probably read Hanshin from her next, truly I'm not sure if I'm really into sci-fi. With novels too I tend to read realistic or contemporary fic, and before that fantasy, thinking back I never really encountered sci-fi. I'm starting classics now though but Pride and Prejudice's obsolete language is really messing with my head.

I wonder about the year 24 group. I'll look up into it sometime.

Ah in the last comment I typo-ed, the actual book I was referencing was The Weight of Water by Anita Shreve. Faces of Water is by actually Janet Frame, I'm reading this atm and so far it's great. The latter is my first time reading surrealism, but the writing is quite exquisite. The former is really lovely, when I first read it back then I really enjoyed the storytelling and everything. The whole book is an atmosphere of melancholy and I live for it.

I sure will read it one day. I've heard great things about that manga. I think I've heard of Asper Kanojo, will check it out.

I've browsed through quite a lot of media but when someone asks me what piece holds a special place in my heart, nothing immediate comes to mind honestly.

I think you should read Sora wo Daite Oyasumi if you haven't, it's a BL tragedy manga by the same author of Acid Town. It's only 7 chapter so I think you won't have a problem with it. I guess this manga isn't perfect but upon reading it I often find myself thinking back to it and referencing it several times to other people. Literally anything with an appealing premise will be enough to put an impression on me, even though the ride might not have been great. I would recommend Aku no Hana too but it seems you've already read it before!

I don't think I've watched enough movies to have found something quite impressionable yet, but I used to read quite frequently and really loved Faces in the Water by Anita Shreve. I know literature is too unrelated and random, but I think this would do for a good book recommendation.

I wouldn't say I'm the harsher scorer, I left some blanks since I haven't finished some. I think my favors change and along with it my scorings too, I definitely don't agree with some of the scores that I've set back then.

Ah the ambiguous ending pissed me off a lot and didn't quite offer a closure but I can't exactly say I hated it.

True, the story does have a few references to literature if I remember correctly. I agree too, the art really sucks but it's masterful in depicting their fall-out with reality and hallucinations, paneling was great in those places too. It felt like watching a movie with cool, shimmery effects. Inspiration of Zankoku? Where did you get this information, is there an article somewhere? I'd love to read it.

It's debatable but we may never know if it was intentional but I would go so far as to say Sandra's been emotionally manipulating Jeremy from the start. Threatening, insinuating she'll kill herself, going into hysterics, it certainly feels like it. No wonder Jeremy started to doubt if Sandra ever loved him at all.

Overall this manga really is a hit-or-miss, I personally didn't like it but at the same time I probably could make myself love it and turn against everything I disparaged about this work, because the initial premise was just that impressive. But it's undeniable to say that I truly took no enjoyment to reading this, I understand that some mangas aren't meant to be that way and are created for the purposes of bringing out a message, but I don't feel this way about this manga at all for some reason, and if there was a message, what is it really and is it meaningful enough? I do appreciate a lot of things about this manga though, it has a great storyline and other good aspects about it.

I'm reading Zankoku na Kami rn, it's in your favorites isn't it? MAL said it had 55 chaps but it really had 80ish lmao. I'm on chapter 58 if I'm not mistaken...when I was on chapter 20ish I was so close to dropping the manga altogether. It was tantalizingly slow-paced, I couldn't stand the art too, but I decided to keep reading on anyway, and now I'm in too deep to quit. Very tragic, but to the point it almost feels pretentious, as far as I was concerned. Would love to discuss this manga with you. I'll be done with it pretty soon, and I'll begin Shimanami Tasogare right after.

Seems that Hagio Moto has a quirk for drama tragedy, at least that's what I got from what I read somewhere. If you have any recommendations from this author, I'd appreciate it if you'd share it with me! Let's see if her art style ends up growing on me.
