No problems on the wait, it's just kinda what we seem to do nowadays LOL.
The firefighting sounds intense, though! I recall a chat we had a while ago about the rigorous schedule of your guys' on season and I'm sure it kept you plenty busy this time around too - and from your own testimony it definitely seems to be the case! I am afraid that this year will be even more bleak in terms of fires nationally; just about a month ago they had that HUGE fire down in Nebraska, and even here in South Dakota I frequently saw crews and engines making their way down the interstates and highways to provide assistance. There was also a decent size one on the west size of our state, and there was like three smaller fires around where I live not a day after they lifted the fire ban: from what I gather they were controlled, but it was still eerie as hell seeing three pillars rise almost in unison over an hour's time. Spooky stuff.

But I get what you mean with feeling down and out about 'freeloading' with the family. I would do that plenty between work contracts and it made me feel like sh*t every single time... Like I would certainly help around the house and buy necessities here and there, but idk...

But a house would be awesome!! Are the prices as terribly inflated over there as I often hear? Housing prices here are relatively stable compared to places like the Coasts or Canada, but even I feel daunted when I crunch the numbers... like, property taxes alone average around $2k a year for a modest house here. JUST the taxes to have the thing! I could gripe more, but my ramblings would certainly leave the scope of this chat...

Anyway, glad you're doing relatively well and hope you've found something good for the rest of your off season - and good luck with the upcoming one!

I think it's definitely easier to be doing scans for newer manga. Like you said the one's you might find being announced on online sites. I think I'm more interested in obscure older series. Which are more difficult to adjust the coloring. Thing is, translating is often too much work for one person. You'll need a team. I'm not sure if what I'm interested in is something someone else would like to work on. As for the price, it might be better if I go in person to buy. Rather than pay shipping. But I don't know.
Sometimes online people are selling entire JP sets but they seem to be overpriced. I think they know that there are people waiting to scan them. That's business though.
But I see listings all the time on this site for manga that aren't publishing. Sometimes people make threads asking about them and years later they get picked up.

Forest service is pretty cool. My father worked for them a long time ago. Said something about marking down places and planting trees. Stuff like that. But it's nice to work out in nature I think. (when its not so hot..)
Only thing with translation is that you have to basically destroy your copy in order to scan it. (removing the pages from the cover)

I think as far as manga goes I'm still going at the 2026 challenge. But I am reading less chapters per week than usual nowadays, for whatever reason.
Currently working on my Japanese so I can translate stuff. I went ahead and learned the two basic kanas hiragana and katakana.
I'm able to pick out most letters. Thing I struggle with is onomatopoeia in things like manga. Because even if I know how to sound it out I'm not sure how that's suppose to be the sound in my head. So I usually just end up googling it and that should work for all but the most obscure.
Guess for now I'll learn vocab with the kanji. I have to make my own flashcards since most just use hiragana which is bad I think.
I'm a little unguided. Since with my last language Spanish I had 4 years of highschool. Even if they didn't teach me as well as they could of, it was still enough of a base to go out and learn what I needed to. Here I just figure it out on my own.
It's been a little hard for me to study though since the new medication I'm taking causes drowsiness. Apparently it's just your body adjusting but I can't afford to disable myself and sleep all day.
Work sounds nice, I'd like to work. What do you do? (if that isn't too much of a personal question)

Hi! I'm fine, not much happens, I try to keep up with studying and assignments. The deadlines are lenient but I shouldn't let this fool me.

It's very good! The best word for it is "artistic". I like how they come up with little surprises every episode. That random explosion was my favorite, nobody expected it, haha! I agree with your favorites, Miyako is best. But Yuno is close second. Also, good to see Oreki there.

Thanks, for me it's a whole lot less stressful to write notes rather than writing reviews. But I do put some effort into writing them. Speaking of reviews, Holy Hearts seems to be a more obscure manga. Those are always cool when you find a good one (if you can find a place to even read it in full) Maybe you should write a review once you're finished. Since those are the type of series that need em. Just an idea though.

It's a good idea to have a large PTR section on MAL. Anytime I find anything remotely interesting I save it. Really ticks people off for some reason. So you keep them on pen and paper?
Here the Pokemon issues are generally pretty cheap as well. I just don't like spending money is all. Might buy the mystery dungeon manga though. Since to my knowledge there are no scans of it online despite being officially translated to English. I might be wrong but just couldn't find it.
For my personal life, it's all sunshine and rainbows you know. I've just been finishing up the two longer series I started last year. Finished Billy Bat but haven't finished Arms yet. The challenge seems to be going fine. Not too worried about the deadline.

No problem. I went up and signed up for that 2026 reading challenge. This years seems pretty similar but a lot bigger. Based on those tarot card things.
Thought it would be a good tool to expand my manga spread, get out of the comfort zone a bit.
My backlog is pretty big, usually I just add manga I find interesting even if I don't plan to read it just this second. I think it's better that way.
For one of my entries on that challenge I needed to find a manga that began publishing on the day I joined MAL the 8th. Out of like 180 entries only 2 of them were applicable. So good thing I was hoarding them.
