I don't see how anyone could write a positive review of this. The premise is dumb. The writing is not great. It's just a bad attempt at trying to play to the current fad plots of cooking and getting kicked out of the top guild and it causing issues. It also attempts to play to common tropes and does a poor job of pretty much all of them. Even the 'obligatory' bath episode not only makes no sense but is poorly done. There are worse anime out there .... but this isn't any kind of good.
TLDR: This isn't even a good time waster while waiting

This is a power fantasy story. It's starts pretty good and was a favorite for a bit. With that being said, the quality of the writing is inconsistent and then fell to the level where it felt like a 15 year old was writing it. They reach the "ending" and the protagonist commits straight up war crimes for the flimsiest, dumbest reasons. It's particularly jarring because he's presented as a good guy up until that point. Technically he's still being presented as a good guy.This isn't a natural "character growth" moment. It's just someone wanting to do a "justified" (it's not) revenge power trip scene.

Starts off with promise but the story and dialogue get increasingly .... juvenile in quality. It's often close to pre-teen levels of writing mixed with someone who took a high school beginners course on philosophy and comparative mythology. By the time you realize how badly the dialogue and plot have degraded, you are too far in to abandon the story - it maintains just enough splashes of occasional quality that you want to know how it ends. It's not the worst manga out there by far. But this isn't one I would ever recommend.

Had potential but didn't really fill it. Either the writer has little talent or was just phoning it in. It's not a terrible manga - it did keep enough of my interest to see it through to the end (barely at times). But it is by no means good.
Decent enough story and world building. Where it falls short is excessive plot armor and elements getting so simplified it just becomes stupid. This carries though to character interactions/relationships, character growth, and story telling in general. Things happen less so because it makes sense and more so because the author says it does and thinks it might ... |
