It may be a little slow at first to unwind, but it makes sense later. It's not a short story, it has a lot of depth and complexity that needed the time it had to develop. In addition to being well written, for the genre, it brought a situation of abuse treating it with respect. Not as a nice thing, not as romantic, but a complicated and sad subject, and it was well portrayed in this work. It is also respectful with gay relationships in general, not putting one as 'feminine'. It's realistic the character development, the plot, the situation, the traumas, etc. It's all

very mature and well designed.
The author was able to show everything in a beautiful and heartbreaking way (just saying the path was painful, but it also have comic and soft moments that worth it). The contrast between the two protagonists was also very well done, one as the pillar of the other, both in the past and in the present, helping each other in their own ways. A very beautiful and intense story, that made me cry at many times. Each secondary character also played an important role in the construction of the plot, each minimal action made sense later. Sometimes was funny, sometimes sad, sometimes cute, sometimes suffocating, and sometimes astonishing. It was amazing.
The story made me feel a lot of emotions and I'm really satisfied with the experience of reading it until the end.
